Follow the Leader

A friend of mine called me the other day while she was driving. She just wanted to chat and catch up because we hadn't done that in a while. We were chatting away when I heard her comment on a traffic situation. Apparently, there was some sort of accident on the road and the traffic was jammed in all the lanes on her side of the road. After she sat there for a long time(meanwhile talking to me), she saw some other cars exiting and she decided to follow them. They appeared to know where they were going so she took off in hot pursuit(forgive the Dukes of Hazzard reference). As she followed, she gave me play by play happenings. They went through a bank parking lot and another business and soon she was free.
Life is like this. We are busy going along and suddenly there is a distraction on the path ahead of us. What are we going to do? We have to be somewhere. We've got things to do! Suddenly, we see others up ahead going off the path. We decide to follow them. We hope they know what they are doing and where they are going. We hope that they aren't just pulling off to fill up on Ding Dongs and Ho Hos. We weave through parking lots and side roads until we are free and clear.
Who are we following? Who are they following? Do they have GPS(GOD) or are they just wandering around in the desert looking for something? The Israelites had GOD and still wandered around in the desert for 40 years. How long do we meander through side roads and dark alleys trying to find our way back to our path but not knowing how to get there? These roads can be treacherous and scary. What would have happened if we had just been patient and waited for a little while? Would it have killed us to wait on the Lord? Veering off the path can harm us or even kill us! We could get spiritually car jacked. That jacker could be driving our life all over the place before we even realize that he took control.
Jesus said that He was the way, the truth, and the life. Not a way, not a truth, not a life but THE! He was GPS before it was ever invented. And unlike GPS systems, He is never wrong. If He has us in a traffic jam, then it is for our good. Are we afraid to wait on the Lord? I am! I need to be in control. But I always get lost when I am navigating.

Who are you following? Are you afraid to be still and wait on the Lord? His ways are higher than yours. He knows which way is best even if that means being caught in a traffic jam!
