From Nursery to WOW!

I finally redid my boys room.  Their room is the nursery and since they are 5 and 7, I thought that the time had come to update it a little.  I scanned Pinterest and other sites for some ideas and here is what I came up with!

I used a level and put stripes on the wall.

I found out that my walls aren't level.  I guess the late 60s didn't stress levelness.  It about cause me to go crazy!

Then the white.  I took off the tape and the gray was in between!

I have a few more things left to do to the room.  A few surprises that the boys don't know about!  I love the clean way that this room looks.  The walls were already gray from the nursery.  I touched them up and gave the doors a white makeover.  I, also, sewed a curtain and put it up but forgot the pics.  The boys were thrilled and the girls want theirs done!  I am tired!  But pleased!

She's Crafty and She's Just My Type

I love love love when people ask me for home made gifts for Christmas.  This year, I had a request for a winter wreath for Christmas.  I have made some over the years but I wanted to try something I have never done before.  I looked for ideas on the 'net and Pinterest and came up with an idea that is an amalgamation of several things I saw.

I took a foam wreath from the dollar store and covered it in navy blue yarn.  This is a lot harder than it seems and it does make a mess.

I, then, took white glitter yarn and wrapped 2 spots as you see in the picture.  From here, you could continue with a winter wreath or maybe nautical or even July4th.  Believe me, I have ideas!  I, also, wrapped another layer of navy yarn to give the wreath a certain thickness.  I bought a wooden letter E and painted it.  My 10YO painted the circles that I drew(using chapstick and a Hershey's Kiss and templates).  I sprayed it with a clear coating of spray paint and sprinkled glitter on it.

I added some snowflakes that I had and held them on with pretty push pins and glittered a snowflake I found in my craft drawer and hot glued it on.  I, then, sprayed the whole wreath with a clear coat and then sprinkled on more glitter cause really one can never have enough glitter.  Here is the finished product!  Feel free to pin it!

Finished, finished product! Snowflake ribbon!

Some Yummies

I have been cooking some good things lately, if I do say so myself.  Some recipes I copied from Pinterest and some I just made up by myself.  Here is what we have been eating recently!

Pumpkin Muffins(from Pinterest)
1 box cake mix(I used butter yellow from Betty)
1 15oz can pumpkin

Mix with mixer and put into greased muffin tins and bake at 375 for 20 minutes.  Top with powdered sugar or brown sugar or cinnamon sugar or chocolate sauce while warm.  These are so very good and not too pumpkiny!

Beef pot pie
Boil beef roast or beef stew meat in water, salt and pepper until tender.
Remove meat and thicken with flour roux.  Add meat back to pot and add whatever veggies you would like.  I added potatoes, carrots, celery, and onion cut up.  Cook in pot until veggies are almost done.  Pour mixture into 2 deep pie crusts and then top with regular pie crusts and seal with fork.  Brush with egg wash and bake at 375 for 30 minutes or until crust is flaky and brown.

I hope you enjoy these as much as we did!  Both are new recipes for my house but are going to become staples this winter.  They are so good!

Fall Craft...Pin This!

For The SITS challenge today, we are to share a craft or recipe.  At this blog, you will not 1 but 2 crafts that are easy to make and cost less than $5 each to make.  Lots of pics and all my steps to completion!

Craft #1:  Front Door

All the things on Pinterest are about picture frames for your front door.  Well, I was doing this before it was cool(like last spring).  Take a look!

Tie a bunch of raffia on the bottom.

Add Fall flowers.  I found mine at the $ store.  Tie off or use glue gun.

Tie ribbon to top and hang on front door.  I got the ribbon at $ store, too!
Craft #2  Sign

Another rage right now is make signs with building blocks.  My father-in-law made some for the kids.  I took 3 and made them into a craft with some paint and some leaves from the yard(or my neighbors).

Spray painted the blocks white and used wood stain to give this color.

Orange paint pen and my favorite saying and BAM!  Cute craft!

My Very "Pintersting" Weekend

I was having a party with the lovely teenagers that I teach on Sunday mornings.  They are an amazing group of young women.  I needed some heavy hors de oerves(spelling, I was a Spanish major).  I had stockpiled some yummy recipes on my Pinterest account and so I made it a challenge to use them.  They were so good that people asked me for the recipes.  I am publishing these recipes with links back to the original sites.  I changed the recipes around to suit my tastes but the foundation came from those places.  So here they are with real life pictures of how they were received.

Loaded Baked Potato Dip

16 oz sour cream
1 2 oz package of bacon pieces
2c of shredded cheddar cheese
couple of shakes of Tobasco
finely chopped green onion
 1 Tbsp mayo

Mix all the ingredients together and chill for at least 1 hour.  The original recipe which you can find here says to serve it with waffle fries but I served with potato chips(with ridges).  It was fabulous!

Chocolate Chip Dip(not a lot left)
Chocolate Chip Dip

1 pkg softened cream cheese
1/2 c softened butter
3/4 c powdered sugar
1/4 c brown sugar
1 tsp Vanilla

With mixer, blend cream cheese and butter until it is fluffy.  Then SLOWLY mix in powdered sugar and brown sugar and vanilla until blended.  Stir in the chocolate chips(mini ones work best).  Serve with Teddy Grahams or graham crackers.  Look for the original recipe here.

Bacon and Cheese Mini Frittatas

1/2 c finely diced onion
1 pkg bacon pieces
1/3 c shredded cheddar cheese
dash cayenne pepper
dash black pepper
1 egg
4 egg whites(large)

Saute the onion until translucent and soft and add in bacon.  Set aside.  Beat the egg whites and egg together and add seasonings.  Stir in the bacon/onion mixture.  I used a little water, approximately 1 tbsp and stirred together.  Pour into greased mini muffin pans and bake on 350 for 20 minutes.  These are so wonderful that I found myself eating way too many.  Look here for the original recipe.

Beef Enchilada Roll-Ups

1 pkg Tyson precooked beef strips
1 pkg softened cream cheese
2/3 c shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
chopped cilantro
1/4 c finely chopped green onion
1 can Rotel drained well
tortillas

Enchilada Roll-Ups
Cook beef according to the package directions.  Combine all the rest of the ingredients minus the tortilla.  Mix well.  Finely chop the meat and add to the mixture.  Stir until blended.  Spread mixture onto tortilla and roll tightly.  Set to the side.  Do this until all the mixture is used.  Chill.  Once they are chilled, they are easier to slice into pinwheel pieces.  You can find the original recipe here

My Pinterest Project

I saw this on Pinterest!
I immediately fell in love with it and I became determined to do it for my hubby for Valentine's Day. When I was doing yesterday's project, I decided to go ahead and do one. I didn't have a board exactly like the one in the above picture so I decided to antique 2 boards. 1 was a piece of wood that was used to remodel my stairs in my foyer. The other was just a random piece of plywood. I came up with 2 projects. One is for my friend Kara and her husband Steve. And the other is for me, of course. I am stapling a ribbon to the back so that it can hang on the wall but it could just as easily sit on a mantle or dresser or something! I hope that he likes it. I would love to hear your thoughts on today and yesterday's projects. Follow me on Pinterest. Feel free pin it with a link back to my site!

Pinterest Wednesday

How to antique something with very little effort!  Yep!  I thought I would try a technique that I heard about on Trading Spaces years ago.  I bought these pictures for my hubby at a thrift store here in town for $7(for both).  The frames are great as you can see! The pictures are of old WWII planes and bombers.

1st I took the pictures glass panels from their frames. Then, I painted lightly over the frame with flat white paint. Just before it got completely dry, I wiped it off with a paper towel. Then, I used stain that we had from a home project. I got a rag and dipped it into the stain and wiped it on the frame. I didn't cover it completely but just at random.

When it was almost dry, I took another rag and wiped it off. Then, I took sandpaper and roughed it up a little.
This is what the final product looks like!
Feel free to pin this with a link back to my site! This cost me $7. That was for the picture set. The white paint and the stain I had around the house. This took approximately 1 hour to complete and my hubby was so happy with them. I bet I could sell them for much more! Stay tuned for tomorrow's copy of a Pinterest project I saw!
