I want to pose this question: What is the craziest thing that you have done due to lack of sleep? Most of the people who read this have kids and get little precious sleep due to those tiny critters. You may remember your first child and the shock it was to not sleep through the night. I can remember those 1st few months when Isabela came. Oh my word!!! What a shock to the system! I had done some things in college that kept me up all night but I almost always got to sleep in to make up for it. Not with kids, no sir!! Then, the 2nd came and Ella needed to eat every 2 hours for 8 months and she wouldn't take a bottle. No help from the hubby! Grainy eyes! I had LASIK surgery when she was 7 months old they gave me some drugs for the surgery and I enjoyed the 16 hours of uninterrupted sleep. I don't know what she did during that time and I didn't care(to be honest)! She is alive so what does not kill us makes us stronger! As I am dealing with my last infant and him not sleeping through the night, I got to thinking how fun it would be to share some stories. So here's mine:
When Bela was little, she got a cold and so did I. I took her to the doctor(she was the 1st. Now, they have to be bleeding from the eyes to go to the doc) and they gave her some meds for coughing. I was taking some over-the-counter meds for my cold(Robitussin or something) and I got into a coughing fit during the night. I shuffled into the kitchen without turning on the light because we lived in Savannah and the "Palmetto bugs" (ok, roaches) came out at night. I didn't want to deal with seeing the creepy crawlies. I went to the counter and took my medicine. I had taken it the day prior so I knew how much to take and I did it without reading the label. What I didn't know was that I was taking Isabela's medicine with codeine and I had taken almost 2x the recommended dosage! I slept good and hard for the next 12 hours or so. Michael couldn't wake me and when he saw the lid not quite screwed on correctly(which I am known for), he knew what had happened. I got good sleep and didn't cough for hours! Sure could use some now! Tee, hee! Share your stories under the comment section. I know that I am not the only 1 out there who had done this. Sweet dreams!

Crazy things we do
Tuesday, September 23, 2008
I have registered for Facebook. Isn't that crazy? I can't believe the numbers of people you can find on there. People from high school, college, or current life. I did it to keep an eye on the youth that we teach at church. I can't get pictures to load or anything else but I guess I'll figure it out. I am pretty computer illiterate so that is not surprising. BTW, just an FYI, be very careful what you type in when you go on there. I made 1 little slip and put and n for a b and you would be shocked at what came up on my computer. Horrible stuff! Malicious people who figure out your key strokes and what mistakes you make and then they capitalize on it! Another reason I don't let my kids on the computer unattended! Hope you all have a fabulous week!
Got Gas? We don't! Is this the Jimmy Carter 70s? I hope not!

What your backside says about you...

I don't mean you derriere. But, it can, too. If you wear jeans that show your underpants, whether guy or girl, you tell people a lot about yourself. However, what I am talking about is the backside of your vehicle. There are tons of bumper stickers out there that are plastered on the bumpers of SUVs, station wagons, Jeeps, and sedans. They all have messages. Some people have 1 message and some people have 100s of messages. How do they expect others to read them while driving? We might be safer to text message someone! I have come to notice that the more you have the more extreme you tend to be in your beliefs, usually to the left. While you drive, notice the number of bumper stickers and the ones that have 3 or more are almost always left of center. I think that you'll find that I am correct. I don't mean the stickers that denote a team affiliation or vacation spot. I am talking about message bumper stickers.
Let's examine some of them and the inconsistencies. "Free Tibet" and "Peace, Not war" are contradictory in that freeing Tibet would involve war with China. "Love the earth" and then the driver flicks a cigarette butt out the window or a puff of black smoke comes out of their exhaust pipe. People who "love Jesus" yet they cut you off, speed, and make inappropriate hand gestures at you. None of those gibe. If I were a politician(not something I aspire to), I wouldn't want my name on some cars due to the actions of their drivers.
What does mine say about me? It says that someone in our home loves the South Carolina Gamecocks and someone loves the North Carolina Tarheels.
What does yours say about you?

Remembering
Since we didn't die when the Super collider started its engines, I thought I'd do some remembering. September 11 has come and gone and we have experienced 7 years since that devastating tragedy. Are we better or worse or the same? I'd like to think that we are better and smarter and more prepared. I, however, don't think it is so. As it is in the whole realm of human experience, we forget and get complacent. I remember the planes hitting the buildings and the sinking feeling that I got when I heard that it wasn't an accident and then 3 more planes. Tears flowed down my face as I watched the towers come down and people just wandering the streets looking for loved ones and friends. I remember the feeling of solidarity as Americans flocked to churches all over this country and prayed and sent money and food in the greatest outpouring of love and generosity that has ever been lavished on anyone. My husband, some friends, and I drove around our town(Savannah, GA) and looked for American flags that were flying and we took pictures of the pride of that time. But, since then, we have been allowed to forget. Out of respect for the families, the footage was not shown again and the space where the Towers stood got bogged down in red tape and poor planning. We have forgotten that we are marked for death by these terrorists, yes,I said it, terrorists! Not insurgents or freedom fighters! If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, then..... We got into arguments on who knew what and when they knew it. People who don't have their heads screwed on in the proper position think that some person, even a slimy politician, would let this happen if they had any foreknowledge. That is just ludicrous and I don't mean the rapper!
I say that we are back to being September 10th people and we are resting on the fact that they probably won't do it again. They will do it again and are probably setting things up to strike. I would like to think that we have learned a lesson but I am almost positive that on the whole we have not. Individually, we know, but we are so busy trying to live our lives that we just get so stinking tired of the fight. Terrorists never get tired of the fight! They want to kill themselves just so that they can get to their "heaven". That kind of fanaticism doesn't die. It just gets stronger! This is a political season and most of you probably know which color I am, red or blue. Whatever you believe, whether it is for "change" or it is for the "maverick", you have to hold these people accountable. Help them to keep us safe and to remember because there are still families out there who are swallowed up in grief and heartache. They never forget! In the Bible, the Israelites came out of captivity and not more that a few years later, they wanted to go back to Egypt and be slaves rather than keep the faith and follow the path set before them. I don't want to go back to September 10th. I want to stay in September 12th mode. "Let's roll!"

Super Collider

In case this is the last day before the super collider destroys the earth, I hope that you are secure in your final destination. And if you are like me you'll be relieved not to read or listen to anymore of the political ads that are running every 5 secs even on kids' channels! If you don't know what I am talking about them Google the term super collider and you'll find that scientist are trying to recreate the Big Bang. Can't recreate something that never happened! Hmmmmmm......I guess they'll figure it out or explode earth into some HUGE black hole! I have always wanted to meet Chewbacca and Han Solo in a galaxy far, far away! See you on the other side, LOL!

Sad times
Well, football season has officially begun and already sad times have descended on our home. Michael is an avid South Carolina fan, which I think makes him eternally optimistic. After the 1st game, he they had some work to do if they were to beat Georgia but last Thursday's showing at Vandy made him a down trodden! So much potential, so little discipline. Many mistakes on the field and quarterback problems add to the piling up Gamecock problems! Now, I know that Steve Spurrier is a great coach but can he do it at USC? I think so. I just think that the players need to get over the "chicken curse!" At least Clemson lost in their season opener and North Carolina won theirs! There was some reason to celebrate. I love football which makes me a odd man out with my friends but I hate to see my baby so distraught! Maybe with some mojo, the Bulldogs will be putty in USC's hand!
